East Oakland Boxing Association Day Hike

EOBA runs a youth program that includes a summer session for elementary and middle school students.  ICO has supported its program in the past by leading day hikes to various East Bay Regional Parks.  Last summer, we led two very successful day hkes, to Inspiration Point in Tilden Park and Sibley Regional Park in the Oakland hills, with groups of fun and enthusiastic third and fifth graders.  I have scheduled three day-hikes for this July, on the 5th, 9th, and 10th.  Exact location will be among local Regional Parks, with the exact route to depend upon weather and other conditions.  Each trip will include between 15 and 20 youth, and will require several volunteer drivers.  Expect a fun and lively outing!

Please save the date for a SF ICO community celebration potluck/picnic.  It’s an opportunity to thank Jeff Adams for his 10 years (!) of service in chairing SF ICO and to welcome Linda De Young as our new stalwart Chair... and also to mingle with other volunteers and trip leaders.  Please join us!    This is the kind of event that may happen only about once per decade :).

Time:  around 3-5pm
Location:  TBD, but an Oakland Park near BART

Once the location is decided, we will follow up with info on RSVPing and sorting out food and drink contributions so we aren’t faced with a monolithic mound of trail mix and lemonade.

Taking approximately 25 middle school students to Angel Island. Will be taking ferry from Jack London Square to Fishermans Wharf to Angel Island. Kids will love and learn a lot about each location if they don't already know. Since many of the kids come from immigrant families, we will try and get a docent who will show us where they were kept on the island and give us Chinese history of detainement.

ICO City hike and lunch in SF

Our leadership team is looking forward to the start of the school year and getting organized for what we hope to be lots of trips this fall.

For something a little different we're planning an urban exploration hike in North Beach and Telegraph Hill.  Hidden stairways, architecture, stunning views, it's all there!

We'll meet near the Embarcadro BART at 10:45, do a 2 hour hike and return for lunch at 1:00. We encourage everyone to do the hike, but you can also just join for lunch.  Our leaders will preview planned outings, and we'll leave time for group discussion.

There are places to buy drinks and food in Justin Herman plaza, but probaly best to bring a lunch and avoid the crowds.

We will meet at 10:45 sharp at Sue Bierman Park on the little knoll just north of the Vaillancourt fountain.  Walk down Drumm street from BART.

Cheers,
Jeff   510-508-7564

Oyster Bay Day Hike with YEP

ICO and east Oakland's Youth Empowerment Program are teaming up for the second time to explore and enjoy our bayfront! We'll take public transportation to Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline in San Leandro where we'll walk along one of our area's most iconic and unifiying bodies of water, and enjoy a picnic lunch along it's shores. We'll be sure to learn how important the Bay is to the ecology of our area. Who knows, we may even stumble upon a curious display of public art!

East Oakland Boxing Association Day Hike

The East Oakland Boxing Association runs a summer program for youths aged 9-15 at Reach Academy, an Oakland Elementar school located at 98th Avenue and Bancroft.  This trip is one of four day hikes that we have planned--for July 10, July17, July 24, and July 25.  All four are posted on the ICO schedule, and all four need additional ICO support.

This trip, tentatively to hike around Lafayette Rervoir, an EBMUD open space area near Lafayette.  The trail is scenic, with views of the lake and opportunities to view varied forms of wildlife.

We will depart from the EIOBA site at 9:00 am and return before 3:00 pm.   This is a great opportunity to do what ICO is all about--supporting a lively group of urban youths in experiencing the outdoors and nearby nature.

East Oakland Boxing Association Summer Program Day Hike

The East Oakland Boxing Association runs a summer program for youths aged 9-15 at Reach Academy, an Oakland Elementar school located at 98th Avenue and Bancroft.  We have planned a day outing on Monday, July 10, 2017, to a nearby East Bay Regional Park, Inspiration Point in Tilden, where we will hike to Wildcat Peak and eat a picnic lunch along the way.  The route offers sensational views of the greater Bay Area, and the 'doable' challenge of hiking to the top of a local peak.  We will depart from the Reach Academy site shortly after 9:00 am and return by 3:00 pm.  The trip needs at least four volunteers/drivers to transport up to 20 youth.  This is a great opportunity to do what ICO is all about--supporting a lively group of urban youths in experiencing the outdoors and nearby nature.
