Oakland High School Newcomers Yosemite Camping Trip

The Oakland High School Newcomers Program has organized a camping trip to Yosemite National Park, departing from Oakland High on Wednesday, April 10, returning by the evening of Friday, April 12. 

The Program is comprised of newly arrived students from around the world, primarily from Central America.  They are an eager and energetic group.  The Program leader is also experienced with camping.  Vigorous day-hikes and hearty meals are planned for the two-night camping trip. 

Several ICO volunteers are needed to provide transfortation for the trip.

All meals will be provided for ICO volunteers, but volunteers should bring personalk camping equipment. 

ICO volunteers also must have been approved through the OUSD approval process to participate in a trip involving OUSD students.

ARISE HS Snowshoe Trip to Hutchison Lodge

We will be taking 20 High Schools students from ARISE HS in Oakland up to the Hutchison Lodge near Sugarbowl for a weekend of snow activity.  We plan to cook most of our meals in the Hutchinson Lodge, but will have a our Saturday night dinner cooked for us family style at the nearby Clair Tappan Lodge.  We will spend our time snowshoeing, hiking, and enjoying winter activities in the Donner Lake area.

Oakland High Adventure Club Black Diamond Mines Day Hike

Note change of date from March 24 to March 17.

The Oakland High School Adventure Club plans to go to Black Daimond Mines, an East Bay Regional Park located in the hills south of Antioch, for a day-hike in the large open-space area.  The Park has historic displays regarding the coal mining operations that took place there around 150 years ago, as well as a network of trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding region as well as the possibility of great wildflower displays.

ICO volunteers are needed to provide car-pool transportation for the lively student group on what should be a great outing.   Volunteers must have been cleared by the OUSD volunteer approval process.

Oakand High Adventure Club Redwood Park Hike

The Oakland High Adventgure Club will car-pool to a trailhead in Redwlod Regional Park, high in the Oakland Hills, hiking in streambeds and over ridges with great views of the surrounding area.  The trip should end bvy mid afternoon.

Green Tigers Outing to Tilden Regional Park

Join ICO and other BCC and Laney ESL students for a beautiful hike at Tilden Regional Park. This 3 mile loop will feature beautiful water views as we hike from Tilden Farms up to a scenic viewpoint. The hike is considered medium difficulty because it does climb some elevation. We’ll take lots of breaks and will enjoy lunch together afterwards.
